This program is for students intending to pursue research careers in biomedical sciences. It provides students with a working knowledge of computing and biological sciences for bioengineering careers in bioinformatics, the pharmaceutical industry, and the biotechnology industry.

Foundational Courses
The requirements for the mathematics major, which also apply to the bioinformatics concentration, are the entry requirements of MATH 15000: Calculus with Analytic Geometry I (4 cr) and MATH 15500: Calculus with Analytic Geometry II (4 cr), the symbolic computation proficiency requirement, which is met by taking STAT 31900, and the following major core curriculum. Students may be except of some of these courses by placement. Please contact the Department for information on exceptions. The Following Courses with B- or better
In order to enroll in the quantitative biology concentration within the mathematics major, students must obtain an average of B- or better in the following courses: Requirements for the Major
Symbolic Computation Proficiency Requirement
As a requirement for graduation with a BA in Mathematics, students must demonstrate entry level proficiency in symbolic computation. The requirement can be met in any of the following ways: b) passing a departmental exam in a computer algebra system (currently we use MATHEMATICA or the equivalent)
